a
scrapbook narrative of the times

.... and
the longest consecutive-years music group run on the
Fabulous Las Vegas
Strip.
A career began with an accordion for Sam in
Newark, N.J. 1938, age seven. Over the years he perfected a
unique sound by innovating a new technique for
the instrument and resulting in a new
dimension for accordionists and record
productions; .........
.....Sam's "Big Band Sounds" that lasted for
decades on the Las Vegas Strip and well-fused in the memories
of visitors and the entertainment world and golf world of that
era.
"The Sam
Melchionne Quartette", "Las Vegas' Little Band With The Big
Band Sound" as was coined by showbiz colunmists, performed a
one-city unmatched run of seven long consecutive engagements
spanning all the years of the 50s, '60s and more,'Vegas Strip
Hey-days'; a music group record-run history still
standing.
His "BIG BAND
CAVALCADE", the band that performed the opening of the original
MGM Grand Hotel, played the dance classics and his quartette
uniquely produced dimensions of those same big band
sounds blending accordion with sax, bass and
drums while singing four-way vocals; a self-contained
vocal orchestral ensemble.
Other fields of endeavor
during this record run included writing and playing on his
radio and television
singing commercials, producing/performing on
recordings for stars of the day, writing his Las Vegas Sun
weekly newspaper real estate editorial column and correlated TV show
for exposure for his real estate business and his golf
world exploits as seen in these pages.
A Las Vegas
Story.....
.................an
historical scrapbook from the '30s.
It'd be
nice to hear from you.....
Sam extends his thanks and gratitude to his
loyal family and those many well-remembered hometown friends,
fans, his musicians, showbiz personalities, celebrities & casino
executives who contributed to making it possible for him to live
such wonderful exciting years.
